Introduction
Aikido is a Japanese martial art founded by Morihei Ueshiba, known as O-Sensei (Great Teacher). It is a non-aggressive, non-competitive martial art involving self-defense against attacks by single and multiple opponents. In physical terms, Aikido involves throws, joint locks, and breakfalls that have roots in many ancient Japanese martial traditions, especially Jujutsu and Kenjutsu.
In our classes, students will learn self-defense techniques without kicking or punching. Instead, students will tap their inner energy and defend themselves by using the strength of the attacker. Our classes emphasize body dynamics, throws, pins, and locks for men and women of all ages. Aikido uniforms (judo-gi) may be worn but are not required.
